In GTA: Vice City (and in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas) every member of the heist knew each other, interacted with each other in front of the player, and thus were more engaging. However, the people who accompanied them on heists were just extra hired guns, random strangers to the player, and the only thing they really added to the experience was a smaller cut of the profits. While Franklin, Trevor, and Michael all knew each other, and were known by the player, it was easier to become invested in their on-screen actions. It's nothing which hasn't been done mechanically in a number of GTA games since, and a template which should definitely return in GTA 6, but the way the characters in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City go about their business makes it much more entertaining and engaging.

Through a series of missions (some of which can be quite difficult) Tommy assembles his team, and then they all get together and go rob a bank. There's no beating around the bush, there's no moral dilemma about what his friends or family may think, and there's no real explanation to the player what Tommy's ultimate plan is until they're a few missions deep in The Malibu Club's story. Instead, somewhat humorously, upon purchasing the club players walk upstairs to see Ken Rosenberg (on cocaine, as usual) telling Tommy that he already bought " that chalkboard you asked for." Tommy gives him a quick snarky remark, and then immediately says " I need a safe man." However, especially since all of the other asset missions have been about doing things for that property's continued success as a business, most players assumed that purchasing the Malibu Club would allow them to participate in some sort of ownership activities. Tommy Vercetti is desperately in search of more money throughout the entirety of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, so it's no surprise he'd rob a bank if given the chance. Instead, Tommy simply uses the upstairs office of the club to plan an elaborate heist mission on a local bank, seemingly out of the blue. However, unlike all of the other asset missions (which should also return for GTA 6) in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the Malibu Club's are not about the Malibu Club itself. The Malibu Club in GTA: Vice City is a purchasable property which, upon completion of all its asset missions, will generate money which Tommy Vercetti can collect periodically. It's not just GTA: Vice City's setting which is more vibrant, either. There are lots of rumors (and false information) currently floating around the internet about GTA 6 and whether or not it will take place in Vice City, and one of the reasons fans want to return to Rockstar's fictional version of Miami so badly is because it was so much more cheerful and less dreary than recent entries in the franchise. Related: GTA 6 Already Takes Place In Vice CityĪlthough Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' casino heist may have been the high point of the PS2-era Grand Theft Auto games, there was actually an even more entertaining mission in the previous game.

This was disappointing, especially because the Grand Theft Auto series has already shown players it knows how to create enjoyable heists with characters who simply want to rob people for the fun of it. Instead, most of the time Michael De Santa complained about being too old to be in this line of work anymore and had to be forced into entertaining situations by outside influences. It never really seemed like the characters (save for some, like Trevor) wanted to be going on a heist. The biggest problem with Grand Theft Auto 5's heist missions was the way they were framed in the story. However, the heist missions players actually received in the game left a lot to be desired. The heist aspect of Grand Theft Auto 5 was talked up immensely before the game launched, both for its single-player mode and Grand Theft Auto Online. If Grand Theft Auto 6 decides to bring back heist missions, hopefully they will take a page of of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City's book and make them lighthearted, enjoyable affairs.
